Eco Thought for Today

Without the nature around me life would not be so interesting and I can't understand how so many adults appear to have lost the interest and fascination they had as children. I am with David Attenborough when his answer to the question about his continued interest in the natural world was something to the effect of when did you lose your interest (this may not be an accurate representation!)? Children are naturally interested in nature and love animals and everything that goes with them.

Now well into my 50s, I can't remember a time when I haven't been interested in the natural world and as I get physically older I still can't get enough. My feeling that the natural world has as much right to exist as us humans is stronger than ever as the human population pushes the 7 billion mark. After all, where to we get many of our resources from. The natural world also provides much of the inspiration for art and even technology and medicine. What do we often do when we want to relax or go on holiday? Don't we head for the great outdoors, sometimes, at least?

Of course, we need places to live and to grow our food, but do we always need to occupy the space we do just because we have the money? Perhaps if the focus was more on the truly important things we would have a more balanced society and not have suffered the recent financial problems that many of us are suffering from. Maybe?
