Seven million and counting

So, the human population continues its upward trend. Of course, as has been said in at least one interview I have heard, today's date is largely symbolic, but it has had the effect of focussing population growth in the collective minds of the media and their audiences, which must be a good thing.
One comment I heard was that the number of births has been decreasing, but our technology and expertise in health care allow more to live through to adult and reproductive years.
Whatever the number, if resources are being used up faster than they are being replaced we are heading for a problem. This article is interesting as it focuses on six resources that are essential for the way society runs now, though they are not the only resources that could be discussed.
The six natural resources most drained by our 7 billion people http://gu.com/p/332dc
Happy birthday!
