Education must surely be key to any movement in living sustainably and there is, of course, a move to ensure Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is moved further up the agenda in terms of importance. State funded education is mostly regulated by Ofsted and will form part of the inspection process.
Ofsted themselves say that they want to ensure the organisations they "regulate are contributing to a sustainable future. We do this by providing impartial and objective evidence on the quality and performance of the services we inspect and regulate, in order to support improvement in those services and ensure better outcomes for service users, including those outcomes important in achieving a good quality of life". Taken from To Sustainability and Beyond, June 2010, Ofsted.
I am not clear on exactly how they will do this, but I can see how this is an important part of the development of a sustainable future.
